Privacy policy
*Last updated: October 6, 2026*
STEMinute ("we", "us") is a daily STEM problem game at steminute.com. This policy explains what information we collect and how it is used. By using STEMinute you agree to it.
The short version
- You can play without an account. If you sign in, we keep your name, email address and results so you can see your history.
- We do not sell your personal information. The website shows ads from Google, and Google may use cookies for them. You choose whether to allow that where the law requires a choice.
- We do not store the answers you type. We keep whether an answer was right, the points and the time taken.
Information we collect
If you play without an account
- **Progress on your device.** Your browser keeps the question you are working on and your finished results.
- **An anonymous visitor ID.** The app makes a random ID and keeps it on your device. It lets us count how many different people use STEMinute. It is not your name or email.
- **Usage records.** We record when you open the app, start a question, submit an answer (right, close or wrong, with the points and time taken), share a result or sign in. Each record has the date and time, the category, the platform (web, iOS or Android) and the type of device.
- **Technical data.** Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, handles your IP address and request details to deliver the site and block abuse. We do not save your IP address in our own database.
If you sign in
- **From Google or Apple:** your name, your email address (Apple may give us a private relay address) and an account ID from the provider. We never see your password.
- **Your display name,** which you choose and can change in the account menu.
- **Your results** for each question you finish.
- While you are signed in, usage records may be linked to your account.
How we use information
To run the game, keep you signed in, understand how STEMinute is used so we can improve it, prevent cheating and abuse, and meet legal duties.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- **Cloudflare,** which hosts and secures the service for us.
- **Google and Apple,** when you use them to sign in. Their own privacy policies apply to their part.
- **Google,** which shows ads on the website. Google may collect your IP address and information about your device and visit to show and measure ads. We do not give Google your name, email address or results.
- **Anyone you choose,** when you share a result.
- **Others if the law requires it,** or if the service is sold or merged.
Cookies and local storage
- A **sign-in cookie** keeps you signed in. It lasts up to 30 days or until you sign out.
- **Local storage** on your device holds your visitor ID, your game in progress and your results.
- **Advertising cookies.** The website shows ads from Google. With your consent, where required, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technology to show ads that fit your interests and to measure them. Without it, ads are not personalised. We do not set advertising cookies ourselves.
- Google and Apple may set their own cookies while you sign in.
Your choices
You can use STEMinute without an account, change your display name, sign out, and clear your browser data at any time. Where a consent choice for ads is offered, you can change it at any time with the privacy choices link on the site. You can also manage ad personalisation in your Google account settings or at [adssettings.google.com](https://adssettings.google.com). Clearing it signs you out and removes the progress saved on that device.
Children
STEMinute is for people aged 13 and over.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date at the top. Using STEMinute after a change means you accept it.
